Gravity Water Filters

A gravity filter pours water through dense media with no plumbing and no power. That independence suits off-grid use, emergencies and renters, at the cost of slower flow and a manual refill.

How gravity filters workNo plumbing · no power
What it does

Poured, not plumbed.

Water poured into the upper chamber drains through filter elements into the lower one and out of a spigot. What it reduces is a claim each element has to hold; source water that may carry microbes needs evidence for that, not the form factor.

How to choose a gravity filter

No plumbing, no power

A gravity system needs nothing but the water you pour in, which is exactly why it shines off-grid, during outages and in homes you cannot plumb. You fill the top, gravity does the work, and filtered water collects below at its own pace.

Read the element claims carefully

Reduction depends entirely on the filter elements, and coverage ranges from basic taste up to lead, PFAS and microbiological claims. Independent certification is not universal here, so check what each element is tested for rather than assuming the whole system is covered.

Match capacity to your household

Gravity flow is slow by design, so a small reservoir can fall behind a busy kitchen. Size the unit and the number of elements to your daily use, and treat the slower fill as the trade for needing no install at all.

Also decidesWhat the elements reduceSome gravity elements are certified to reduce items on a broad list, including chlorine, lead and PFAS, and some carry microbiological claims. Check exactly what each element is tested for.Throughput and capacityFlow is gravity-slow, so reservoir size and how many elements you run set whether it keeps up with the household.Element lifeLong-life elements are part of the appeal, but replacement timing and cost still belong in the decision.
