Raising pH with a media bed.
Acidic water flows through a bed of media that dissolves slowly and raises its pH. The media is used up as it works, so the bed needs topping up, and the change can matter for equipment further down the line.
- Who it suitsWells with a measured low pH, often with blue-green staining
- What it needsA pH and flow reading, a drain for backwash, and media top-ups
- What it won’t doSettle what happens downstream. Neutralizing can change hardness, so softening may need reassessing.
- Where it goesBefore softeners and filters that the acidic water would otherwise reach
